Unstoppable Life

Let’s talk about eternal life. What is the difference between eternal life defined as an existence that never ends or a quality that lives within us? I think most of us can, at least, imagine what it means to exist without ever stopping; but to comprehend this thing that lives in us called “eternal life” might be something that requires more thought.

I remember as I began to become more acquainted with the Bible how I noticed that it often referred to “eternal life” as something that is within us. Just the very words “eternal life” sounded big and energetic, like it must be something very powerful that we are carrying around. I think that looking at it that way helped me to have faith in its ability to help me in my everyday life. I became more aware of this big, energetic, powerful “something” that could affect me in ways and bring about some changes that I couldn’t seem to do with just my own willpower.

I think most of us can look back on our relationship with God and see that many changes have been made, not only around us but inside us. Maybe things you once feared don’t have the same impact on your emotions as they did before. Maybe you find yourself demonstrating love in a way that is more natural than it used to be. I know that I can definitely say that love, joy and peace have increased in my life because of this internal energy that I have found in Christ. This, plus the knowledge that the life within me is truly eternal, that it will never end, is a very joyful and confident realization.

To think that God really wanted this for all of us and gave His only begotten Son that we would not perish, but have everlasting life, was a beautiful reflection of the Father’s heart. The life of Christ within us has a way of bringing us into more and more wholeness and well being and has shown itself to be progressive. It looks to be eternally progressive and that means that despite the circumstance around us, internally we can continue to grow by that big and powerful energy of eternal life. In fact, life is unstoppable. You can burn down a forest but life will just spring forth anyway and it will continue to grow.

I am so glad that Jesus came for the forgiveness of sin. He came to reveal God to us and to change our minds about Him. But wow, I am so thankful that He came that we would have that LIFE and that life so abundantly.

I hope you will think about what this life means to you today. Like most of us, you may be dealing with the day to day challenges of this existence here on earth, but the life in you simply will not be stopped. And even if our outward man perishes, our inward man is being renewed day by day and death is being swallowed up by this LIFE within us.
