Is Morality Really a Good Thing?

Morals are good things. We are considered to have morality when we are guided by positive, inward, personal principles and values. Morality is certainly better than immorality, which forsakes mutually acceptable standards of good behavior.

Virtually all cultures and ideologies would agree on many things concerning what is good or bad behavior, but we find in our societies a thing called moralization. Moralization is another thing altogether, it is the process of giving a personal preference or a neutral issue more weight than is good for humans. A good example would be that some people believe that it is good to drink no alcohol at all, so they would like to impose a prohibition upon everyone, even on those with no negative impact on their moral behavior.

While morals are good, moralization is detrimental, and it lives in a lot of religion. The grace of God goes against moralism. Grace is just so lovely, and while moralism might mean well, it is very imperfect. It doesn't ultimately bring about Godliness, and it is actually very weak and collapses under it's own weight.

The imperfections of moralizing;
1. It turns personal preferences in moral imperatives.
2. It breeds judgmentalism.
3. It creates a sense of moral superiority.
4. It fosters a false narrative of "good vs. evil".
5. If feeds the lie of separation and brings emotional distance.
6. It overrides empathy and compassion.
7. It Reduces complex situations into absolutes with no nuance.
8. It elevates issues above human beings.
9. It makes God colder and smaller.

None of these things should be thriving in the church. We are finding our Father's heart, and our purest motives are elevating His children above everything. We are becoming more empathetic and understand and gracious, - just like Daddy. Like the Bible says, grace is teaching us true godliness and holiness.

We can see moralism in the world's political games. Both sides are furiously emotional about their view of what is right. Though they differ in their preferences, they exhibit the same fruit. There is anger, hate, and divisiveness. These are the opposite of the fruit of the Spirit, and they are the inevitable fruit of moralism.

God's children can show up in society with grace for all that Jesus died for. We can offer a better option than moralism. We can bring heaven into our world if our minds are not hijacked by the current events of the day and the voices of accusers that capitalize on these issues to play us like puppets.

There are real morals, and there are good and bad things, but let us love people more than our bloody issues. It's a good time for us to touch the hem of Jesus' garment and be healed of our bloody issues.

Grace and peace to you. We believe in you.
