Secure in the Mystery of God

These are my thoughts today:

I know that I have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, yet I’ve also become aware that God is infinitely better than I have imagined. It’s the old adage, “The more I know, the more I realize I don’t know.”

The apostle, Paul, said it this way, “I pray that you would know the height and depth and width and breadth of the love of Christ (though you cannot completely comprehend it).”

We are talking about the mystery of God, but it’s not a closed secret. It’s an open mystery. That means that God is not holding back from us. His doors are not closed. The open mystery is a wide-open vastness of grace and Love so copious that you cannot quantify it. It’s an open mystery that says, “Come and learn of me, and you will find rest for your soul!” It’s the Creator, our source of Life, inviting us to come and see, to come and dine, to come and behold the beauty of the One who is the author and completion of our existence.

We could say that Jesus is the invitation to know the God who delights in being known.

I think some of us look to religion as a way of understanding everything about God. We might get a sense of security in thinking that we know. We worship a god that fits into our box of logic. But there is a problem. God will eventually show that He is bigger than any box we create, that He can do things that you don’t understand. When that happens, it can cause a sense of insecurity.

However, you can become very secure in the mystery of God. This comes when you are convinced that He is good, even if you don’t understand everything. You can accept that God is good and that He is bigger than any of the temporal events that have our attention.

We can know that in whatever situation we are in, we are ultimately safe. We are cared for, and we have our own special place in the heart and purpose of God.

I love that there is so much about God that I don’t know yet, and there is more goodness in Him that I have yet to taste. His mind is more beautiful than I can imagine. But I do know that He is beautiful enough to bring forth this amazing creation that we live in. Only an infinitely good and lovely mind could create all that we see around us.

If God takes care of the birds, He will take care of you. You are ultimately safe and sound in God, so let’s walk the walk that we have in Him, and let’s enjoy the discovery of the depths of God’s Love, His grace, and His goodness.
